To change the name and password of your wireless network

Many Danes still use the same name and password on their wireless Internet connection, which was standard when it was established. It is a great idea to switch both and we explain how.

Of course, when you have a wireless network, you want to make sure that the security is in order and that the people who have access to your wireless network are actually only the ones who have been allowed to use it. Therefore, in many cases, it may be a good idea to change the name as well as the code for a wireless network from time to time.
To change the name and password of your wireless network

To change the name and code of your wireless network:

1. Connect to your router

In order for you to change the code for your network, you must have access to your router. You can do this by typing your router's IP address into the address bar of your browser - just like typing “www.dr.dk”. There are several different default IP addresses, but the two most frequent are 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1. If either of these two IP addresses does not work, try looking in the manual you provided with the router - otherwise, try the Google model number on your router and see if you can find its "default IP address". If you have had or borrowed the router from an ISP, you have also been notified of the router's IP address. Some ISPs have to log in to their self-service to change the name and password of the wireless network.
Once you have entered your router's IP address, you will see a website, just like when you access a regular website. However, you will most often be asked to log in.

The login information to be used for your router will most often also be possible to find in the manual that you received when you chose to buy your router. If you can't find your manual, try searching the model number on Google again.

If you are unable to find your login information, here are some suggestions for what they might be:
- Frequently used usernames: Blank field, admin, administrator, router, login
- Frequently used passwords: Blank field, admin, administrator, password, 000, 0000

2. Select Wireless / Wireless

After logging in, you will be able to see a menu where there will be a variety of options. Here, make sure you select the menu item "wireless / wireless". Once done, you will now be able to see your wireless network.

3. Rename your wireless network

To rename your current wireless network, typically look for the “SSID” field. It is a text box containing the current name. Delete it and type the name you want instead.

We advise against using a name with Æ, Ø, and Å. It can cause problems later.

After checking that the name in the "SSID" field is as it should, just press the "Save" button

4. Change the code on your wireless network

After changing the name of your network, find the subpage called "security/security". On some models, the password will be on the same page as the name of your wireless network.
Change the code in the field that is probably called “Password” or similar to something you can remember and press save.
On some routers, you have the option to choose what type of protection the router should have - for example, WPA2. What you choose doesn't mean much in most cases, but there must be a password on the wireless network
You have now changed both the name and the code on your network. Your network may restart and you will need to log in to the network again, remember the new name and code
